Job Description

WGTE Public Media, Toledo, Ohio, a community licensed public TV and radio broadcaster, seeks a full-time Chief Broadcast Engineer.

The Chief Broadcast Engineer leads a department with principal responsibility for radio broadcast service (four FM radio transmitters located in Northwest Ohio); TV broadcast service (one TV transmitter); a/v engineering support for studio and field productions and editing; IT services; TV traffic services; and, facilities maintenance and planning; to lead in the installation, maintenance, and repair of our transmitter sites in order to maintain superior service in all coverage areas while complying with FCC technical requirements.

Responsibilities Include:
• Support and advise senior management in developing and implementing strategy to enhance and sustain engineering infrastructure to meet program goals.
• Develop and supervise the execution of all preventive maintenance and procedures.
• Research and develop operating techniques to maximize the potential of technical facilities.
• Assure strict adherence to FCC rules and regulations for broadcast operations and oversee the maintenance and quality control of all broadcast equipment, including proofs of performance for all transmitters.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of all applications for license renewal and other FCC permits as necessary.
• Develop and implement a long-term capital equipment replacement/procurement plan for TV and radio broadcast, TV and radio production, facilities equipment, etc. and work with senior leadership to secure and expend funding appropriately. This includes researching and recommending system upgrades, etc. to senior management. Develop, recommend, and administer annual engineering budget; plan and recommend station’s capital budget with senior management.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, resourceful, self-starter, with strong time management and critical thinking skills.

An Associate’s degree in electronics technology or similar degree, plus 5-8 years of technical service in the TV Broadcasting Industry, is strongly preferred. In lieu of a degree, 10 years of technical service in the TV Broadcasting Industry, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
