Stay in compliance with music copyright law.
Music is an integral part of broadcast programming. Copyright law, and in particular, music licensing, can be very confusing.
Primer on Music Licensing for Broadcasters
To help our members stay in compliance with music copyright law, the OAB’s FCC counsel of Brooks Pierce LLP has prepared a Primer on Music Licensing for Broadcasters. The guide provides an overview of the copyright laws applicable to the use of music by broadcasters and explains common music licenses and licensing issues for television and radio stations, including:
- licenses required to broadcast music over the air
- licenses required to stream music on the Internet
- licenses required to reproduce music in connection with broadcast operations.
If you have questions about the information contained in the guide, or regarding other music licensing issues, you can contact the OAB FCC hotline, available free of charge for OAB members. Contact Mariah West to request a printed copy.
