2023 Scholarship Recipient: Evan Wildenmann

Evan Wildenmann

College: Purdue University
Major: Biomedical Engineering
High School: Oak Hills High School
Year of Scholarship: 2023

The Ohio Broadcasters Foundation is pleased to recognize Evan Wildenmann as the recipient of our 2023 OAB Kids Scholarship. The son of Kim Wildenmann, Senior Executive Account Manager with WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, Evan is a graduate of Oak Hills High School, and will be attending Purdue University, where he aspires to build a career in biomedical engineering with a focus on sports medicine.

Evan’s career goals stem from his fascination with biology, his love for sports, as well as firsthand experience with a close family member’s battle with a chronic disease. This diagnosis provided unique challenges for Evan while navigating daily life as a high school student, prompting him to take on new responsibilities at home, while continuing to excel in school, holding multiple jobs, and remaining active in volunteerism, athletics, clubs, and extracurriculars.

A straight-A student with a consistent 4.0 GPA, Evan graduated in the top 1% of his class and has earned a plethora of accolades for his academic achievement. These include the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and AP Scholar Awards, and several athletic awards. Evan was also nominated by Oak Hills faculty for several leadership conferences and events hosted by his school, Harvard University, and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY).

One of Evan’s teachers describes him as “the epitome of a stellar student,” adding that he is not only “driven, ambitious, and dedicated” in and out of the classroom, but also “one of the most respectful, kindest, and caring” students they’ve ever worked with.

School involvement for Evan continued into his after-curriculars, which included being a member of student council, acting as class officer, participating in varsity swim and golf, symphony orchestra, and Spanish club. Evan also acted as a founder, consultant, and Executive Board member of his school’s Writing Center, where he worked as a peer tutor, a mission he plans to continue into college.

In his community, Evan has logged over 150 hours of volunteering, taking part in causes that have benefited underserved individuals and families, children, the elderly, animals, veterans, and more. His drive and passion for helping others takes inspiration from Kim’s 20-plus years’ experience in the broadcast industry, where according to Evan, she “has used that position to help businesses, champion causes and model a strong work ethic.”

This summer, Evan looks forward to spending time with friends and family playing pickleball, swimming, hiking, and kayaking. He plans to work as a lifeguard and volunteer at his local food pantry.

We are thrilled to extend our 2023 OAB Kids Scholarship to such a bright student and wish Evan a successful journey to what is sure to be a promising future ahead!
